Candidacy Approval Form

Candidacy status is an indication that a doctoral student has developed sufficient mastery of a discipline to produce an original research contribution in his or her field. Students should enter candidacy as soon as all requirements have been completed. Students must reach candidacy by September 15 at the start of their fourth year. To be eligible for candidacy, a student must meet the following requirements:

Complete all program requirements for candidacy: coursework and other training required by the degree program, including program required JPE training
Complete qualifying examinations required by the degree program
If required by the degree program, obtain approval of a dissertation prospectus
Complete TATTO 600, TATTO 605, and JPE 600 (also see item 1)
Resolve any Incomplete (I) or In Progress (IP) grades
Be in good standing with a minimum cumulative 2.70 GPA
Have earned at least 54 credit hours at the 500 level or above

Doctoral Completion Form

The Doctoral Completion Form is used to attest that you have completed all the Laney Graduate School and Program requirements for your Doctoral Degree. Once your form is submitted, it will be sent to your Director of Graduate Studies for approval

Masters Completion Form

The Master's Completion Form is used to attest that you have completed all the Laney Graduate School and Program requirements for your Master's Degree. Once you form has been submitted, it be sent to your Program Administrator and your Director of Graduate Studies for Approval.

Update Expected Graduation Date in Opus

In order to submit an Application for Degree, your expected graduation date in OPUS must be the same semester and year that you want to earn that degree. You can only submit an Application for Degree in the current semester.

The Application for Degree for Summer will open on June 5, 2026, in Opus.
